Blood Donation Drives at Memorial Health System Hospitals Reopen to the Public
Blood donation drives hosted at Memorial Health System’s five hospitals have reopened to the public.
Those hospitals are Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, Decatur Memorial Hospital, Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville and Taylorville Memorial Hospital.
The need for blood donors is critical, said an official with ImpactLife, the organization that supplies blood for Memorial Health System’s hospitals and other hospitals in the region.
“Like many other blood providers across the nation, ImpactLife is seeing critical blood shortages in the wake of COVID-19,” said Amanda Hess with ImpactLife. “We need donors in the days ahead to ensure our ability to provide this lifesaving resource for hospitals and patients in our region.”
Upcoming blood donation drives include:
- 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 24, Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation, 228 W. Miller St., Springfield
- 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 24, Taylorville Memorial Hospital
- 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. July 12, Passavant Area Hospital
- 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 19, Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital
- 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 22, Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation,
Donors who participate in one of the donation drives at a Memorial Health System hospital must follow safety guidelines in place on each hospital campus. Those guidelines include wearing a medical-grade mask at all times and observing social distancing.
Donors who give blood through July 11 will receive a $10 e-gift card when they donate blood at any of the donor centers or mobile blood drive locations.
Giving blood takes about an hour. Many variables can impact blood inventories, such as weather, holidays or tragic events. Less than 10 percent of the population gives blood, so donors who give on a regular basis are important to meet these needs.
