May 10, 2013

After more than more than three decades of caring for the sick and injured at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Anne Sydney, RN, BSN, of Lincoln was named the 2013 Nurse of the Year.

Sydney began her career at ALMH in July 1977 and has always worked in the Emergency Department. She holds an RN from Decatur Memorial Hospital and a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from SIU Edwardsville. She also holds a variety of certifications including: Emergency Communication Registered Nurse (ECRN), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS).

“I love taking care of people. Making them feel better and maybe even helping them heal really brings me joy,” said Sydney.

Sydney was chosen for the honor by her peers who voted on six candidates for the Nurse of the Year honor including: Nathan Buss, Amy Lawrence, Roger McCoy, Steffanie Richardson and Chelsey Seitz.

Jeanne Dennis, Director of Nursing, presented the award to Sydney at the annual nurses tea held on May 10, 2013 to celebrate National Nurses Week.

“Anne exemplifies the criteria of the Nurse of the Year. She is a team player, she has a positive attitude in the workplace and she is a very talented part of our nursing team. We are grateful to Anne and nurses like her who provide exceptional care and unwavering commitment to our patients,” said Dennis.

Her nominators praised Anne for her genuine concern for patients and co-workers.

“She is always there to help. Her great attitude makes the ER a fun place to work,” said her nominators.
